The Studio - Phase 5

Finishing the rooms

The rooms are almost done. Ceilings are mostly in place, major construction is done and Steve is now in the home stretch, finishing things here, trimming things there.

Johnny plays the score for Rent in front of the now finished control room window. As you can see, there is a lot of maroon beside the window. Sort of hard to tell from this, but that is acoustic foam. The room is divided between foam and wood so that it won't be too reflective or too dead, but just right.
This is looking from the main doors towards the drum room. Not a great picture, but I think it shows pretty clearly how much Joe's bass amp resembles him in terms of proportions. Amps are like pets, they resemble their owners...
John again, he just can't get enough of Forbidden Broadway. You can get a better idea of the foam on the walls and the shape of it. On the right side you can see more foam, but that wall is not finished yet.
And here is that wall. The entire wall will be acoustifoamed, not so much for acoustic reasons, but so that Tom won't get injured when he flings himself against it in fits of drummerly exctasy. He's an excitable boy.
Michael is apparently in mid-filthy gesture towards me in this image. Once again, this wall will be foam foam foam. Behind Mike's amp pile are Rosie the Robot and the still. Not sure what's going around those yet.
Here's a shot of Mike's Amp Pile. The guitar is a Peavey something or other, and the amp itself is also a Peavey something else or other which also is plugged into the famous All Terrain Armored Ampeg, the only guitar cabinet in the world with monster truck tires. As with the picture of Joe's amp, you can see how this amp resembles Mike, with the fancy hairdo on top of an old, dessicated, rickety body...
The drum room is done except for the ceiling, which will not be a drop ceiling like the rest, but will have some kind of solid wood. To the far right, you can see the serrated look of the foam. It looks more dangerous than it is.
In this shot, you can see the ceiling of the main room and the back wall, with the CR on the right and the drum room on the left. John is torturing me with a medley of Phantom of the Opera tunes, and by this point, I'm thinking of the camera as more of a potential weapon.
To keep from ruining a perfectly good camera,I escaped to the control room, which is actually very soundproof. The big window looks into the drum room and is fully installed and trimmed out in Mahogany (yeah baby)... All it needs is a Barry White CD playing in the background and this room will be make out central!
And finally, this is a sort of preliminary sketch of what the mixer desk "might" look like. We're still working out details, but in the end, it should be fairly impressive. No, it will not have 6 keyboards, it will have 2 (one for the mixer and one for the computer, same with the2 mouse pads), but we're not sure of the best place to put them yet. The mixer in the top view is an actual picture of the mixer we have. Work on this will begin when the rooms are complete, which may be as early as this weekend.

And finally, here's a little panorama I stitched together showing everything from the drum room on the left, the Leslie, the control room window, Tom's drums, Mike's ass, Rosie and the Still and finally the main doors into the studio.
