The
Studio - Phase 3
The
Studio is progressing at a pretty good clip now. As you can
see, most of the walls are at least started if not complete.
Lot's of Homosote or drywall or angled wood. There is even a
bit of ceiling frame in the control room. Let's take a look
and see how we're doing here at Phase 3, shall we?

|
|
Here
he is, the builder of all this mayhem.
Never one to take the easy way out, here he uses a sharp pointy
object to kill imaginary insects.
|
|
The
fabulous control room window looking into the CR from the
main studio area.
|
|
And
here we pull back a bit to reveal the now homosoted rear wall
of "Studio A". Most of the band stuff was not here
the day these pictures were taken, so we have to assume that
Tom was practicing elsewhere, cuz that boy just never quits.
|
|
and
even more to the right than the above shot. More wall. On
the far right is our robotic maid Rosey, right next to the
still.
|
|
And
now to the other side. This is looking into the Super-Reflecto
Drum room.
|
|
The
Super-Reflecto Drum Room is completely lined in what we carpentry
types call "Wood". This should give a nice slapbacky
echo when we finally get around to doing something in there.
The doorframe on the right is how you will get into the control
room.
|
| |
And
here is the other side. Wood wood wood. I haven't seen so
much wood since "Butt Bangers in Boise Vol.6". The
yellow stuff on the couch is insulation, which will help keep
the sound of our banging and thumping from disturbing the
lovely and talented Mrs. Leclaire when all this is finished.
And I mean banging and thumping in the strict musical sense,
not in the butt bangers in boise sense.
|
|
The
back walls of Studio A, and before you ask, yes our recording
equipment will be really nice, and you should not assume anything
in advance just by looking at our collection of state of the
art boom boxes.
|
|
Now,
this is inside the control room. That is the control room window
looking out into the main studio. Why is it at a weird angle
you ask? We're not really sure, but apparently it has something
to do with acoustic properties, at least, we hope that's the
case. At least it gives room for the snack shelf. |
|
Little
Steven takes a break from his labors while leaning against the
front wall of the control room. You can see he has put up fancy
wood stuff and some nice trim and at the top you can see a little
of the framing for the drop ceiling. In the foreground are the
tools of the trade, as every manly man can attest, you can never
have too much grout. |
|
And
the final pic of phase 3, we see into the control room and the
woodwork therein. The ceiling frame is visible as is the level,
which is useful for making sure the walls are straight and will
not collapse later killing and injuring dozens. I also like
how the drill stands up on it's own. The lower wall will be
painted in some shade or other and where the table is will be
the magnificent mixer desk, which has yet to be designed but
will most certainly kick mixer desk ass! |

That's
it for this week, be sure to keep tuning in for more studio
news and views.
